30 Day Song Challenge: Day 7. A song that reminds you of a certain event.
When I started to look at the list for this thing, this one excited me. Instantly a million things popped into my head. There are so many songs that take me back and remind me of happy, sad, silly, and crazy times I had over the years. I thought I could use “Night Drive” by Jimmy Eat World, which reminds me of staying out after curfew, sitting on my gravel road after prom one year. I could use “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus and talk about how awesome it was to hear that at Shenans and have all the bros who think they’re hot shit singing it word for word. (HILARIOUS, by the way). Or I could go with “Fuck You” by Lily Allen, which mostly makes me think of Larryfest. BUT – I chose to go with one song that reminds me of many many good times. “Your Love is My Drug” by Ke$ha reminds me of being at Shenans with my ladies when this song came on. Screaming all the words and busting out the awesome “rap” section = awesome. It reminds me of Larryfest and my beloved Beardman from last summer, because after all, I “liked his beard.” It also reminds me of many spectacular sing-alongs after a night out, since this always makes the playlist. Whenever this song comes up on my iTunes or iPod, I can’t help but laugh to myself and soak it in. I know a lot of people probably hate this song, but to those people I just have one question: Do you wanna have a slumber party in my basement?
Day 3: A song that makes you happy. There are so many songs that make me happy it’s tough to narrow it down. This song reminds me of summer… it just has a summery feel, and right now there’s nothing I need more than for summer to be here and for this semester to be over. So, my song that makes me happy is “All Over Now” by Eric Hutchinson.
Day 4: A song that makes you sad. Until a few months ago, I didn’t even know this song existed. One day on my lunch break I was sitting outside and it came up randomly on my ipod. Ever since, I’ve been hooked. It does make me sad, but it’s also such a great song. And Keith Urban is dreamy, so I can’t really be mad at him for making me sad. “Stupid Boy” by Keith Urban
Day 5: A song that reminds you of someone. Either my brain isn’t working or this is a really hard one! I couldn’t narrow it down to any one person, so this song just reminds me of all of my best girlfriends. It reminds me of being in Eau Claire and hitting up Water St, all of us together before we started moving away. And we are pretty much all sexy bitches. 🙂 “Sexy Chick” by David Guetta ft Akon.
Day 6: A song that reminds you of somewhere. This song reminds me of home. Even though I rarely miss it, when I go months without being there I start to. Sometimes there’s just nothing better than walking down that gravel road towards nothing, or going down to my favorite spots to just sit and think. “Dirty Road Anthem” by Jason Aldean.
Day 2: My least favorite song…
This was also pretty tough, cause there’s only a few songs I really really hate. Ever since I started having to go to junior high dances and weddings, I’ve never been able to tolerate this song. I usually leave the room when it comes on or at the very least find something to occupy my time so I don’t have to listen to it, or god forbid, dance to it. This can say with absolute honesty that this song will NOT be played at my wedding.
Since I’m a major slacker, I’m deciding to do this instead of tackling my mountain of homework. Lots of people on Facebook have been doing a 30 day song challenge, and I thought it was a cute idea, so I’m in! So here we go…
Day 1: Your favorite song. This is pretty impossible, since at any given point I have about a million favorite songs. To help make a decision, I turned to my iTunes. This is very close to the top of my Top 25 Most Played list, and honestly it is an amazing song. I love the singer’s voice, it’s from one of my favorite bands (that I’ll be seeing in just over a month!!!), and for some reason it can make me happy, and it also makes me sad. I love the instrumentals and love the story of the song. So, even though I have tons of favorites at any given moment, this one has been in my top for awhile, and will probably always be up there.
“Sometime Around Midnight” by The Airborne Toxic Event
It’s no secret that I love music. I am nearly constantly listening to something, whether I’m doing homework, at work, or driving. One of my newest (or not so new I guess) obsessions is the band Foxy Shazam. Ever since I was first introduced to them, I’ve been obsessed. The first time I listened the their newest album, I couldn’t stop smiling through every song. Most of my good music listening is done while I’m driving and they are the perfect car band. Cranking it up as loud as I can tolerate and just rocking out through the entire thing is what I generally tend to do. I’m sure other drivers think I’m an idiot, but if they knew how awesome the cd was, they’d cut me some slack. My car’s cd player has been acting up lately and won’t always play burned cds. This week I was FINALLY able to get a copy of Foxy Shazam to play in my car and it absolutely made my day. I’ll be doing a couple longer drives coming up in the next month and I can’t wait to crank it up. Here’s a little sample of a few of my favorites for your enjoyment.
