2013 End of the Year Survey

It’s almost another year, so that means it’s time for me to fill out this silly survey again.

Year-End Survey 2013

Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I did mostly keep my resolutions – which is impressive since this is the first year I’ve ever made any. Towards the end of the year I slacked a little, especially when it comes to eating out and drinking soda. I do plan to make more for 2014 though!

Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes! My sister and best friend both had babies this year.

Did anyone close to you die? No, thankfully.

What countries did you visit?
 None in 2013.

What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
A house, still. Technically I guess I have one now, but it’s not my own.

What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? March 15th & 16th. It’s when my nephew was born…five weeks early. It was a pretty scary night but luckily everything turned out ok. Also, June 15th – when I moved back to Winona.

What was your biggest achievement of the year? Deciding to go back to school.

What was your biggest failure?
I don’t think I had any big failures this year – just silly little mistakes.

Did you suffer illness or injury? Just the usual aches and pains and stomach issues.

What was the best thing you bought?
 A new car.

Where did most of your money go?
 Student loans.

What did you get really, really, really excited about? Becoming an auntie again, Courtney and Liz’s weddings, and all the visits with my friends, family, and the kiddos.

What song(s) will always remind you of 2013? “Timber” by Ke$ha, “Wake Me Up” by Avicii, and “Sail” by AWOLNATION.

Compared to this time last year, are you:

  • happier or sadder? — happier. At the end of 2012 my life was pretty uncertain, and I’m really happy with where I am right now.
  • richer or poorer? — richer.

What do you wish you’d done more?
Visit friends & speak my mind.

What do you wish you’d done less of? Homework.

What was your favorite TV program? Breaking Bad & Dexter.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No, I don’t generally hate people.

What was the best book you read?
Silver Linings Playbook and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Both were much better than the movies.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Some of my favorites I just started listening to this year are: Alabama Shakes, Ed Sheeran, & The Turnpike Troubadours.

What did you want and get?
I wanted a new car with AWD, and I got that.

What was your favorite film of this year? I really liked “World War Z” “Catching Fire” and “Bridegroom.”

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 25 this year – and I spent the beginning of the day working, and the afternoon and evening hanging out with my niece, nephew, and mom. It was a pretty great birthday.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
I like to be comfortable – but I pretty much dress like a teacher.

What kept you sane?
Running and the amazing people in my life.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Ellen. Getting off work at 3:30 gave me time to watch her show and realize how awesome she is.

What political issue stirred you the most?
The battle over the right for gays to marry. <— Still from 2010 and 2012.

Who did you miss? I miss my friends and family that I don’t get to see very often.

Who was the best new person you met?
 Scott.

What was the nicest thing someone told you about yourself. That I make them happy.

The most touching experience you’ve had this year?
Seeing how excited my niece gets to see me after we’ve been apart for awhile.

What did you like most about yourself this year? That I was able to stick to the goals I set for myself.

What did you hate most about yourself this year? I can’t really say that I hated anything about myself this year.

Was 2013 a good year for you? 2013 was a crazy year for me, with a lot of changes, but all in all, it’s been a very good year. I’m happy with where I am with my life and the path I’m on.

What was your favorite moment of the year? I really enjoyed all of the 5Ks I did this year – they were all fun and I got to experience them with some of my favorite people.

What was your least favorite moment of the year? Moving again.

Where were you when 2013 began? I was sleeping – had to work at 7am on New Years Day.

Who were you with?
 I was alone.

Do you have a new years resolution for 2014?
Yep – most are just being carried over from 2013. But basically just want to continue to be happy and healthy and get more in shape.

What was your favorite month of 2013? May and October.

Did you miss anybody in the past year?
Of course – I always miss the people I don’t get to see very often.

How many concerts did you see in 2013? No big ones – just bands at bars.

Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2013?
No – I didn’t really drink at all for the first half of the year and haven’t done too much during the second half either.

How much money did you spend in 2013?
 Probably too much.

What was your proudest moment of 2013?
Seeing the little lady that my niece has become.

What was your most embarrassing moment of 2013?
 I don’t really get embarrassed.

If you could go back in time to any moment of 2013 and change something, what would it be? Everything happens for a reason, so I wouldn’t change a thing that’s happened in the past year.

What are your plans for 2014?
I’ll be wrapping up all my classes, and will be done with my practicum by the time 2014 is over. I’ll have my internship figured out and be very close to being done with school FOREVER! 🙂

How are you different now that the year has ended? I’m pretty similar to who I was at the beginning of the year, except I think I’m more laid back. Now that my life has settled down a little I’m more content with who I am. I know what I want and who I want to be, so there’s a certain peace in that.

Daily Prompt: Tattoo….You?

Do you have a tattoo? If so, what’s the story behind your ink? If you don’t have a tattoo, what might you consider getting emblazoned on you skin?

I have six tattoos…it seems I’ve gotten about one every year since I was 19. All my tattoos hold special meaning to me, or I wouldn’t have gotten them in the first place.

My first tattoo was the outline of an elephant holding some flowers, and it’s on my left shoulder. This was sort of a spur of the moment decision, as a friend and I just went in to ask questions and they ended up doing it right then. It comes from a picture I have of two elephants with the flowers in between them that says, “Happiness is meant to be shared.” I’ve loved elephants for my entire life, so it seemed fitting that an elephant would be my first tattoo.

My second tattoo is on my wrist and says “no regrets.” It’s just the way I hope to live my life, believing that everything happens for reason and that everything will be alright.

My third tattoo is on my foot – it’s a peace sign with wings. This one is basically cause I believe in some hippie ideals.

My fourth tattoo is on back and is one of my favorite Carl Jung quotes – “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” It is referencing something very specific in my life, but it also fits on a broad level. I am not the victim of my circumstances, I can make choices and changes to live the life I want.

My fifth tattoo is lyrics from one of my favorite songs, and is on my ribs. It says, “Where you invest your love, you invest your life.”

My sixth tattoo is right under the Mumford and Sons lyrics and is just a simple arrow.

I might be done with tattoos for awhile, but I’ve thought that before. The only thing I still want to get is a cherry tree, either on my back or on my thigh.
